Constraining changes in the middle Atmosphere Brewer Dobson circulation from observations
Project information
The aim of this proposal is to obtain a data set in which the mean age from different sources can be combined and to use this data set to study the long term evolution of mean age which can be used as a proxy for the strength of the Brewer-Dobson Circulation (BDC). The two best data set available worldwide of stratospheric SF6 (which is used to calculate mean age) - the balloon data set by GUF and the satellite data set by KIT - will be extended and improved. The combination of these data sets, completed with improvements of diagnostics for the Brewer-Dobson Circulation which can be better compared to model diagnostics, will eventually help to improve the understanding of possible changes in the upper branch of the Brewer-Dobson circulation.
