Using L1 B V8.03 data, KIT-IMKASF performed a reprocessing of L2 data independent of the ESA processor. During L2 reprocessing KIT-IMKASF discovered that a not negligible number of scans of MA and UA modes had a problem. KIT-IMKASF, IAA, CNR-IFAC and ABB started investigations on L1 B V8 products, and it was found that about 4% of the scans of MA, 4,7% of the scans in NLC and 1.4% of the scans in UA have one tangent altitude set to 0, generally the one with nominal tangent altitude equal to 85 km. The corresponding spectrum was also corrupted. From further investigations it was found that also other measurement modes are affected, but for a significantly smaller amount. A preliminary list of orbits with affected scans including about 4000 orbits was defined. The task of the project is the re-processing of the corrupted data, leading to correct L1 B, and in a next step, correct L2 data of version 8 to complete the MIPAS data record.
IMKASF contribution: Health checks of level-1b data, level-2 processing of the corrected L1 B data with the IMK processor.
