Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, (9.0 N, 39.0 E, 2443 m a.s.l.)
In 2009 a FTIR container with a Bruker 120M (upgraded with 125M electronics) has been set up on the Science Faculty Campus of Addis Ababa University. The instrument was operated by the group of Dr. Gizaw Mengistu Tsidu, Addis Ababa University, from 2009 to 2018.

A FTIR is operated at Addis because it
- is a high-altitude station and offers good measurement statistics even in the tropics;
- it allows to study atmospheric processes in the tropics;
- is the first high resolution FTIR in Africa operated continuously;
- provides infrastructure and a research group with experience in FTIR measurements and data analysis at the site.
