Research Aircraft HALO

HALO (High-Altitude and LOng-range aircraft) is the largest German research aircraft, a Gulfstream GV-550 Business-Jet that has been strongly modified, primarily in 2008 – 2012). For specific campaigns HALO is equipped with various and changing interfaces (such as air inlet systems, optical ports, belly pod, underwing stations etc.) for in-situ and remote-sensing scientific instrumentation.

HALO is operated since 2012 for typically two research campaigns per year, mostly with at least one of our instruments, see table below. With HALO’s long range of more than 10000 km, high ceiling altitude of ~15 km and its high payload (typically ~2 tons), it is used for various scientific studies in atmospheric and geophysical research.

For further information please refer to the HALO homepage.
